SEO Guarantee
If I am paying all this money for rankings, I should be able to get some kind of SEO guarantee right? There are
SEO guarantees offered out there, but they are dubious at best.
Changing Rankings
Certain rankings from SEO cannot be guaranteed – ever. To understand why, you need to understand how search
engines rank sites. It all comes down to math. The search engines evaluate sites using algorithms. These algorithms
are being changed and tweaked constantly by Google, Yahoo and Bing if for no other reason than to prevent people
like us from figuring them out and gaming the system. In fact, Google admits it changes its algorithm every day!
The practical result is the ranking system changes slightly ever day and your site will move up and down in the
rankings because of these changes. Every search engine optimization pro worth his or her salt knows this and thus
is hesitant to offer an SEO guarantee.
Don't believe me? Here is what Google says on the subject. You can click the title to see it on their site
about half way down the page:

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a
"special relationship" with Google , or advertise a "priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit
for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by
submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever."
It doesn't get much clearer than that. If anyone tries to tell you differently, bring up this page and ask them
to explain their position!
False Guarantees
Okay, so how are these companies offering SEO guarantees without getting hammered when the search engines
ranking changes? They are doing it through a slight of hand. There are a couple of ways. One is to offer to get you
ranked for keywords that are simple to master, but also don’t bring you much traffic. For instance, a company might
offer to get our site ranked in the top 3 for “SEO Services in Nigeria”. It would be fairly easy to do since nobody
in Nigeria is looking for such services, but it would bring no business. Technically, the SEO guarantee would be
delivered, but it would mean next to nothing as far as business being produced.
A second approach is what I call the guaranteed non-guarantee. This one is a classic. The company will offer you
a guarantee of top 10 rankings on Google. The SEO guarantee, however, will be met so long as say any 3 out of 35
potential keywords are raised into the top 10 at any point in time. Well, three top rankings can bring in a lot of
business right? Not really. Of the 35 keywords, 10 would be really hard to get, 15 would be moderately hard and 10
would be easy to get top rankings on but deliver little traffic to your site. So, guess which group your three
rankings are coming from? Right, the useless keywords.
Traffic Is A Must
A high ranking is only worth anything if it brings traffic to your site. If I rank high for “blah de blah” on
Google, it isn’t going to produce any business for me. If I rank high for “affordable seo services”, it is. You can
guess which one I am interested in.
The sad truth is any SEO guarantee you see being offered is being used as sales pitch and has little value.
Nobody reputable in the field will offer SEO guarantees. I’m not just talking about our firm. I mean anyone and you
are free to shop around to see what our legitimate competitors are saying about the subject.
